Community Network Meme 2011

Finally the day has arrived. Here are the 20 questions for the 2011 meme edition…And my answers. At the end of the post you will find the list of all of this year participants, so take a minute or two and enjoy the ride 😉

1. As a blogger, what do you draw inspirations from for your posts?

First I like to cook dishes that I used to enjoy back in Panama. Then I like recipes that I know my kids will like (mainly because they are my guinea pigs) and finally I love to try new recipes attached to history or traditions from Panama and other countries.

2. If you could swap blogs with another blogger for a post, who would you switch with and why?

That’s a tough one. I like many blogs; the stories they tell and the people behind them. But if I have to choose one, I would switch with Cecilia, from Thekitchengarden. I love the way she lives her life and the wonderful way she has to translate those experiences into words.

3. If your blog had a theme song, what would it be? Why?

I’ll Be There for you, by The Rembrandts. Why? Because I’m a super Friend’s fan. And because

“So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Your job’s a joke, you’re broke, your love life’s DOA
It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear
But when it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year
I’ll be there for you…”

4. What is your writing process for a post?

The regular process starts by figuring out at the beginning of the week what I want to cook that week. Then I buy the ingredients that I need and choose one of the recipes for that week and make it. I take the picture (or wait for my daughter Pilar to take it) and when everybody is in bed (11 o’clock or so) I’ll write the post in English; double check the orthography (Word and Google translator) then I do the same in Spanish. And post them. But that rarely happens. Most of the times the whole process occurs in the same morning, the Hispanic Heritage Week that I made back in October for instance.

5. Your blog requires a cute, new, mascot – what would it be?

An animated blue jelly bean 😉

6. Do you feel you express your “true self” on your blog?

I try to do it. But is a bit difficult in English, because is not my first language. I think of something and then I try to put it in words, but sometimes I just can’t. I’m much more talkative in person.

7. What is your biggest online pet-peeve?

SPAM and phishing

8. If you could live in a fictional universe, where would you live? Why?

I like my present universe. Some others come to mind, but not to live in them. I mean, who would like to live in the Middle-earth…? With all those Orcs and Trolls, not to mention Gollum . But wait!! I found one. Narnia. Yes! Why? I love C.S. Lewis and the Pevensie, actually one of my dogs is called Lucy, after Queen Lucy the Valiant.

9. You’re having a bad day, you’re upset, you’re angry, or you’re sad – what is your go-to comfort?

Sorry to the non-smokers, but I will go to my kitchen, light a cigarette, turn on the radio and open a cook book; or turn on the TV or PC and watch an episode of one of my favorite comedy series (friends, modern family, happy endings, big bang theory…)

10. What is your favorite inspirational quote?

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference”

11. If they were to make a movie based on your life, who would play you, your leading lady/man, your best friend, and your rival?

Hoho! Me, Rosario Dawson or Eva Mendes (they are both gorgeous). My leading man, Keanu Reeves (love him!!) or Ryan Reynolds (cute!!). My best friend, America Ferrera (she seems nice). And my rival Penelope Cruz (can’t stand her!!!).

12. Do you think the world is going to end in 2012?

Nope. Sorry, I know the rules say no “yes or no” answers, but my answer is NO.

13. If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

My ability to gain weight! Is like a superpower…

14. What is your favorite season and why?

Spring, because everything is reborn.

15. You’ve been bitten by a vampire. Would you fight it with all your undead being or would you embrace it for all it is worth?

I will embrace it!! No doubt there, especially if there’s a Cullen involved 😉

16. Have you personally met any of your blogger friends?

No, not yet. But I will love to.

17. What does your favorite pair of underwear look like?

Worn, they are my favorite, aren’t they? I’m kidding.

18. Have you ever drank something right from the container in the refrigerator knowing other people will have to drink out of the same container later?

No, never. But not because of other people, but because probably somebody did it before…

19. What is your favorite word and explain why?

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Do I have to explain why? Come on people!!!

“Even though the sound of it
Is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough
You’ll always sound precocious”

20. 2011 is soon coming to a close, is there anything you’d like to do different on your blog in the year 2012?

I will like to make it more appealing to recurrent and new readers.

Well, that’s all folks! Remember to take a look at the others participants.

Have a nice day!

  1. Hi Giovanna! I enjoyed reading your answers! You have lots of fun, bubbly personality, don’t you? LOL

Your answer to #17 cracked me up.

See you on the other blogs!

    Cheers,

    Mitch

  2. OK I’m back. I scrolled down too far looking for comments and was distracted by a delicious looking cupcake. Yay another Friends fan AND Big Bang Theory (I have a secret crush on Sheldon). Your word is the best so far. I love trying to get my 6 year old to say that word. 🙂 So nice to meet you!!

    1. Hehe… Hi Melinda!
Thanks for visiting my blog and for commenting 🙂
Sheldon, eh? That’s interesting; probably Leonard’s mom has a theory for that 😉
I’m glad to have find another Friend’s-aholic, is the best serie of all times.
Very nice meeting you. See you soon I hope.

  3. Love the animated blue jellybean!

I quit smoking in January this year and I have to say that I do still miss my comfort cigs! . . . I’m considering getting a 0mg e-cig and see if that helps fill the void!

The Serenity Prayer has been a favorite of mine for years – great answer 🙂

I’m always interested in experimenting with new recipes, so I’m looking forward to checking out some of yours!

  4. Hi, I immediately clicked on your song when I got here. Great choice. We’re supposed to visit blogs we haven’t sen before but yours looks familiar….. maybe it’s just the theme.

Spam doesn’t bother me much because it amuses the hell out of me, but phishing is disgusting They’re lowlifes.

Believe it or not I thought of that same favourite word as you did too. It was magic in the day I first heard it. Real fun.

    Great blog 🙂

    Noeleen

  5. Brilliant post! Lovely to find out more about you and I think we share a love for the same inspirational quote. And I am always in awe of your ability to publish in two languages – I´d find it tough to write so well in my second language. Am off now to check out some of the other blogs 🙂

  6. Giovanna, great answers! I am very glad that you were a part of this. You started with the day has finally arrived. It didn’t seem like it would ever get here, did it? If you ever need help with your English (and I can’t imagine that you do), I can help.

I’m sorry to find out that your poor lungs are tortured like that. So sad but I love your quote.

So far no one believe the Mayan doomsday calendar. That is good to know that I have so many intelligent blogger friends! If you want to be a part of next years two memes, I would like for you to come up with two questions. Send them to me but not in a comment. I’ll write a post about it, so don’t feel like you have to do it right away. Peace and love.

    1. Thanks Tom. Yes, I have to quit. Maybe this Christmas, 10 hours flight and non stop family reunions can help 😉 I would love to participate next year. I enjoyed a lot answering this 20, I’m sure next year will be too. Have a very nice Sunday 🙂

  7. Great answers! I used to smoke, and even now after I’ve quit, once in a while I still get a craving when I’m having a bleh day, so I know how comforting that can be.

I love the blue jelly bean, it totally should be your mascot! “how you doing!” haha.

You have some great answers here, thank you for participating, I had a great time reading your answers 🙂

    1. Thanks Cherlyn! I enjoyed yours answers too. I’m glad you will persevere and keep writing more often on your blog, because is very good.
The smoking thing is a problem for me. But I’m spending the Holidays with my family in Panama and my mom doesn’t like that I smoke, so probably after a 10 hours flight and the good peer pressure these are my last cigarettes…
Thanks for your comment and for the visit, I hope to see you around here often.

  8. Great post, Giovanna, and a pleasure to get to know you a bit better. Your ability to write in 2 languages is remarkable. As you know better than most, it is one thing to speak a tongue, it is something totally different to be able to write that language. You really do write better in English than some people I know. 🙂

    1. You are just too kind John!
I really enjoy writing in both languages. I’m glad I’m still able to communicate in English. The opportunities to do so in Madrid are scarce.
Thanks for your comment. You should participate next year, so I’ll get to know you a bit better 😉
      Have a nice day!

  9. Yes for Keanu Reeves 🙂 I wanted to put Penelope as my rival too, for the same reasons as yours, but Gwyneth Paltrow has double of the same effect on me 🙂
Thank you for the song you shared, huge “Friends” fan too! All the best!

    1. Dear Nia. Thanks for your comment, but this wasn’t an award, it was something for everybody. You just have to sing in to get the questions. It was really fun. I will tell you next time 😉 Have a nice day.

  10. Hey, sometimes I wear the worn ones too. Only when at home. 😀

And supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. That was my first answer but then i came to the last syllable and thought of delicious.

Glad to meet you here. 😀

    1. Hi Lisa! I agree, with Orlando in the equation things change… And, you are totally right, I don’t understand the whole Penelope Cruz phenomena… I mean, she is not even a good actress!!! Luckily after what she did on the last pirates of the Caribbean, I think we won’t be seen much of her for a while (at least I hope so).
Very nice meeting you and thanks for the comment 🙂

  11. I love that you also write all your posts in Spanish. I never learned to write in Spanish so I’m afraid that if I did that then all my posts would be a sea of typos!
    😀

    1. Hola Mariana! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Yes, I like to write in both languages even if is a little more work to do 😉
If you want to learn and practice Spanish I’ll be here.
      Thanks again for the visit

  12. I thought about the Serenity Prayer for my inspirational quote too, but I convinced myself that a PRAYER isn’t an inspirational quote. LOL. I argue with myself, mentally, all the time.
    LOVE your favourite word. 🙂

    1. Hi Alicia! Well, a prayer can be inspirational sometimes…even if is not a quote. Dealing with four kids, two dogs and a husband what I need most of the times is serenity…;)
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a lovely day.
